Directions

  1. Rinse the quinoa thoroughly under cold water using a fine-mesh strainer.

  2. This step helps remove the natural bitter coating called saponin.

  3. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the rinsed quinoa, water or vegetable broth, and a pinch of salt (if using).

  4. Bring the liquid to a boil over high heat.

  5. Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let the quinoa simmer for about 15 minutes, or until all the liquid is absorbed.

  6. You'll notice that the quinoa grains will become translucent and the white germ will partially detach, creating a visible ring.

  7. Once the quinoa is cooked, remove the saucepan from the heat and let it sit, covered, for about 5 minutes. This allows the quinoa to fluff up and absorb any remaining steam.

  8. Fluff the quinoa with a fork, and it's ready to serve as a side dish, in salads, or as a base for various dishes.

Note

Classic Quinoa

For extra flavor, you can use vegetable broth instead of water.
